A Heartfelt Tribute: Tina Turner’s Statue Unveiled in Her Tennessee Hometown Celebrating the Legacy of the Rock 'n' Roll Icon

In a heartfelt show of respect for rock music’s timeless star, a 10-foot bronze statue of Tina Turner was revealed in Brownsville, Tennessee. The reveal took place on October 4, 2025. The event marked Turner’s journey from a small start to worldwide fame and celebrated her strong impact on music and culture.

Brownsville sits near Memphis and lies close to Nutbush, the town where Turner grew up and went to school. Today, the statue stands near the high school where the singer once walked to class. This link ties the icon to her beginnings.

Sculptor Fred Ajanogha made the statue. He molded it to show Turner in mid-performance. Her wild hair is captured in a crisp style, and her hand holds the microphone with a firm grip. Ajanogha focused on showing her stage force and bold energy. The strong pose and tall form give the sculpture personal power.

Turner’s work and life mixed joy with hard times. In the ‘60s and ‘70s, she made music with her husband Ike. Later, she faced hard struggles to rise on her own with hits like "What’s Love Got to Do With It" and "Private Dancer." Many artists—from Mick Jagger to Beyoncé, to Mariah Carey—show praise for her work.

This event was part of the yearly Tina Turner Heritage Days. It marked her influence along with the town that shaped her youth. The work on the statue reached completion in about a year. It began in Atlanta and ended in West Tennessee. Around 50 local donors supported the project. Ford Motor Company chipped in $150,000 as they opened a new electric truck factory nearby.

The statue now stands by the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center’s Tina Turner museum in Brownsville. The museum sits in the old Flagg Grove School, the one-room place where Turner once studied. The site was moved from Nutbush and fixed up after long years of neglect.

Fans and visitors came from many places to see the statue. For them, it goes beyond a landmark. It shows Turner’s great talent and strong spirit that grew in the small town of Tennessee and caught the world’s eye.

By placing the striking statue of Tina Turner in Brownsville, the town keeps the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” near the roots where her amazing story began. The tribute stands to show her lasting mark for those who come after.
